PhD Study Group
PhD researchers from Middle Eastern Studies, Anthropology, Social Studies, Humanities, Archaeology, Egyptology, or Political Science come together twice every month to share and discuss their projects, to meet up for writing sessions or to read and discuss texts or theoretical approaches.
The Phd group initiated last month has been very succesful. The biweekly meetings inspire great discussions and conversations as well as connections beyond the group meetings. Chapters and first drafts have been discussed as well as methodological challenges that might occur during the research.
Next to our own work, we also invited the author of an article that received critical responses (P. Hessler, What the garbage man knows, The New Yorker), which inspired us to talk about morals, ethics and responsibilities of research and field work, and our own positionality. We will continue with a mixture of discussing our own work and reading related articles and book chapters that are relevant for us.
The group is open to PhD researchers from Middle Eastern Studies, Anthropology, Social Studies, Humanities, Archaeology, Egyptology, or Political Science. If you are interested in joining our research circle, please send a short email to email@example.com stating your name, your institutional affiliation, and your research topic, and we will get back to you with more information.
